Cole Custom Design at the University of Southern California

Founded in 1957 in Detroit, Kaufman and Broad Homes became the first company to be traded on the NYSE as a home builder and was a Fortune 500 company for many years. Eventually consolidating their name to KB Homes, they are ranked as the #7 home builder in the country for 2017. Glorya Kaufman, co-founder Donald Kaufman's widow, is a philanthropist based in Southern California. Her life-long love of dance has resulted in the Glorya Kaufman International Dance Center at USC. She determined that, as a result of her contributions, she would be personally involved with procuring the signature lighting fixtures in the Center.

Working with Pfeiffer Partners Architects and Horton Lees Brogden Lighting Design, Cole Lighting was selected to help Glorya realize her dream. Each of the fixtures were refurbished, including a thorough cleaning, re-wiring, glass replacement as required, and the creation of new suspension hardware. The fixtures were then suspended from a common 60" diameter aluminum disk. Additionally, 15 all-new 2" diameter, LED-illuminated acrylic spheres were created and were intermixed among the fixtures. The highlight of the project was a factory visit by the architects, lighting designers, and Glorya Kaufman herself.

Attached is a more complete array of photos, along with a drawing illustrating the intricate hanging scheme.
